June Virtual Paintout - New Zealand

When I arrived at my son's college graduation a few weeks ago, I realized that I had forgotten my little point and shoot camera. So in a moment of largesse, brought on not only by the great pride of this second child finishing a degree but also by the happy conclusion of more than 23 years of paying tuition, my husband drove us straight to Best Buy where we purchased a much fancier camera than we either could afford or could figure out how to use! With a quick glance over the start up pages of the handbook, I managed to have it up and running in time for the ceremony and the family gatherings but now that I am back in my studio trying to take accurate photos of my paintings I am totally lost. This is the best image I could manage of this painting which is my submission to the June Virtual Paintout blog. What you see is way more vivid than the Google street view it is based on and only slightly more colorful than the actual painting. Next post, I hope to do better!

like your works, this paintout sounds fun, I tried first with maps, I now check out with google earth. I also changed to a better camera and the software is much better as well. I messed with white balance, now just found a standard option and correct with the software, still not the best but its ok.

I was just checking out all the art and stopped on yours. The composition draws you in.... nice shadow shapes.

Thank you, Cindy! I liked the shadow shapes in the photograph too - I think that is why I chose that particular street view. Just looked at your blog - you made some impressive progress at the workshop!

And here's a comment from a non-artist (PW rather than MW) to say what a lovely picture and I'm intrigued by the Virtual Paintout idea. Must google it to find out more! Also, many congrats to Tom. Can we expect a portrait soon (complete with gown and mortar board of course).

Hi S! It's M now - very tickled to read about your camera tussles when I've just messed up my latest blog pic on iPhoto. Next time you visit M's Moths you'll also see evidence of the ageing process (in myself - P remains the lively teenager-at-heart that she's always been)

Now we are going out for a wet walk along lanes similar to those in your lovely painting, camera probs or not

xx P and M

Came over from VP blog to tell you how much I like this piece. Great feeling from it and great perspective. I feel like I'm right there, on that road, in that scene. Nice work!
